The MTA and Metro-North unveiled proposals on Monday that could have commuters paying more to ride the rails to and from Manhattan in March. Riders on Metro-North east of the Hudson River could see a fare hike of up to 6 percent, or 50 cents per ride in an effort to bridge the gap between revenues collected in fares and tolls and the MTA's $13 billion operating budget.

Broadway theatres plan to dim their marquee lights Friday night in memory of Mike Nichols, a nine-time Tony Award winner whose work onstage ranged from the silly "Monty Python's Spamalot" to the heartbreaking "Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman." The Broadway League says the lights will be dimmed for one minute at 7:45 p.m. Nichols died Wednesday at 83. He won directing Tonys seven times and won twice for producing.

Rondu Frisby was arrested and federal charges are pending against him in connection with the armed robbery of the Watch Standard at 23 W. 47th Street in Manhattan on November 11. The police continue searching for two other suspects. Police stated that Frisby, 37, was not one of two males who appeared in surveillance video at the time of the heist.

Serigne Sarr, a 30-year-old immigrant from Senegal, was shot twice by two robbers after they cut short their requested trip from Harlem into the Bronx, asking to be let out at Macombs Pl. and W. 150th St. Sarr said they fired at him before he could meet their demand for money.

A Diamond District worker was hit with federal charges Tuesday, accusing him of orchestrating last week's brazen daytime robbery of a midtown firm in which more than $600,000 in luxury watches and high-end jewelry were stolen, officials said. Rondu Frisby, 37, appeared late Tuesday in federal court in Manhattan on robbery conspiracy and weapons charges in connection with the heist at 23 W. 47th Street on Nov. 11. He was ordered detained by a magistrate-judge.
